Colt NRM 1991 government grip length?
I noticed the 1991 model comes with 7 round magazines while the XSE comes with 8 round mags. Well I was wondering if you were to put the XSE mags into the NRM 1991 would they hang out a little bit? Is the grip on a Colt XSE a little longer than the NRM 1991?
I'm still making up my mind on which Colt I'm gonna pick up in the near future. From a looks point of view I like the 1991 but, from what it would seem, the "bang for the buck" looks to be the XSE. Any input from 1911 "peeps" would be appreciated. :favorites8: |

BTW - I'm not that familiar with the 1991, what's the price etc? I'll do some searching while you respond. :ok: |

Mostly "plinking", practice and most likely IDPA in the future. The 1991 is going $800-850 before taxes, dros etc. The NRM 1991 is closely associated with the series 70 looks but has an 80 series firing pin design. |

The 7 and 8 round mags should be the same length. Engineers figured out a way to squeeze an extra round into a 7-rounder. Some of the 1911 fans avoid the 8 round mags and go with a "tried and true" 7 rounders. Many don't like the duckbill grip safety and change it out. If you like it and it fits your hand, fine. Personally, I would just go with the 1991 Govt model. |

Hmmm.....maybe they are then. I ask because I came from looking at the 91 Government model and the grip seemed short after feeling it in my hands. The guy helping me said the grip on the S&W 1911 was longer and held an 8 round mag. I was only interested in the Colt though. They didn't have an XSE to compare with. I should have put the Colt and S&W side to side. :thumb.aspx: |

Regarding the Colt, it's a great pistol, however it took me over 9 months to pick a 1911, and I chose the Dan Wesson CBOB. It's a bad ass little mother. You want bang for your buck, it's the ticket. And I believe Gun Runners in Duarte has one for $1150. FYI, I took mine to Jim Hoag to install a trigger on it, the guys been around for over 40 years and he never heard of DW. When I picked it up he was raving about what an awesome deal the pistol was. Not trying to sway your decision. But check it out on the 1911 forum. http://forums.1911forum.com/forumdisplay.php?f=52 He took the best parts from other manufacturers. The Commander Classic Bobtail is a 4.25 series 70 style, commander sized 1911 featuring a stainless steel frame and forged stainless steel slide. Like all Dan Wesson 1911s, Commander models incorporate top quality parts from the best names in the industry. Round top slide with fixed 3 dot tritium night sights Forged, one piece match grade barrel and bushing. Ed Brown Bobtail mainspring housing 20 LPI checkered front strap Hand polished flat surfaces with contrasting bead blasted rounds Beveled magwell All sharp edges dehorned by hand Lowered and flared ejection port Ed Brown memory groove grip safety Ed Brown slide stop Tactical, extended thumb safety Commander style match hammer Match grade sear Aluminum trigger with stainless bow Extended serrated magazine catch Wolff springs used exclusively Diamond checkered coco-bolo grips Tuned, machined, internal extractor Test fired for reliability 34 ounces unloaded http://i1000.photobucket.com/albums/...0/IMG_3182.jpg |

I'll definately give it a look. I hear Dan Wesson get thrown out there alot. This is gonna be my first 1911 though and am leaning towards a government (full) size.
Also I want my first 1911 to be Colt........something about the "nostalgia" of the classic look of the basic 1911 that I like. |

When you finally get a pistol, PM me, we'll go pound some steel. The sooner the better because I still haven't shot my DPMS .308/AR-10 that I "FINALLY" put together. Took near 2 years of farting around on my part. :4_8_4v: All the best. |
